PANNA NATIONAL PARK DECLARED AS BIOSPHERE RESERVE BY UNESCO

Panna national park has become 12th UNESCO BIOSPHERE RESERVE OF INDIA.There are 18 biosphere reserve in india.       Panna national park is located in Panna and chatarpur distt of Madhya Pradesh.

WHAT IS BIOSPHERE RESERVE??

Biosphere reserve are learning places for sustainable development.it is area which is for conservation of resources of biosphere and improvement of man and nature relationship.

Area where man and nature can interact with each other,as in MAB programme.

PANNA NATIONAL PARK – PANNA NATIONAL PARK was initially setup in 1981. Also a tiger reserve, declared in 1993 under project tiger. Now declared as BIOSPHERE RESERVE by UNESCO.

As it is a tiger reserve in 2001  it has 40 tigers. Due to hunting there were zero tigers in 2009. Only 2 tigress were there. Tigers were reintroduced from bandhavgadh and kanha national park. Now there are 52 tigers. It is home to gond tribe.

NILGIRI BIOSPHERE RESERVE was india’s first biosphere reserve.
